Respiratory care in Western Australia

Professional respiratory care

  • Home Oxygen (requires referral from your Respiratory Specialist).
  • Chronic Obstructive Airway Disease (COPD) - A supported discharge program (requires referral from those providing your care in hospital).

Ongoing management of a respiratory condition can limit your independence and comfort. Our aim is to keep you out of the hospital and living as independently as possible through expert care.

Our team includes nurses and social workers, working together to help you. We work closely with your own GP and hospital team.

Chronic obstructive airway disease (COPD)

This is a supported discharge program that requires referral from those providing your care in hospital.

The program can assist you with several types of interventions for COPD that may reduce your risk of going back to hospital .The program is offered by Silverchain in partnership with Asthma WA. .

Home oxygen

The program requires referral from your Respiratory Specialist.

Travelling with oxygen

For travel within Western Australia, we can help you arrange an oxygen supply in most remote and rural areas. You need to contact us at least 15 working days (3 weeks) prior to your expected date of departure. For travel outside of Western Australia, we recommend you speak with your specialist.

Who is eligible?

Eligibility is determined by a referral from your respiratory physician for home oxygen. Our eligibility criteria is guided by WA Health state guidelines. We cannot accept referrals for people who are current smokers, as determined by the state guidelines.

What is the cost?

This is a free service funded by the Western Australian government.
