Silverchain Acute Care WA Medical Directors, Dr Ligia Hernest and Dr Natalie Johntson discussed how this approach helps manage patients effectively in the community, reduces unnecessary hospital admissions, and eases the burden on emergency departments. 

Learning outcomes 


Those who attended the event were able to: 

  • Identifypatient, environmental, and treatment considerations for community parenteral antibiotic suitability.
  • Recognise early or atypical presentations of sepsis, including subtle physiological changes.
  • Outline the management of common infectionsencounteredinGeneralPractice (egcellulitis, mastitis).
  • Coordinate referrals to available Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) services.
