Breathe easy: Managing chronic respiratory disease

Our respiratory session was held on 29 October 2024 at the Hub, Bentley Technology Park in Perth.

Learning outcomes:

  • Implement evidence based therapies to optimise outcomes for patients with bronchiectasis and COPD.
  • Summarise community services and resources available for patients with bronchiectasis and COPD.
  • Identify the eligibility criteria and referral pathway to access respiratory care in the community (eg Silverchain COPD Support Program and Home Oxygen services) and recognise potential barriers to patients accessing these services.

Our highly anticipated palliative care event was held on the 18 June 2024 at the Hub, Bentley Technology Park, in Perth.

Learning outcomes:

  • Distinguishing between palliative care options available to support patients with their preference.
  • Understand the referral pathways for home based palliative care and how to optimise outcomes for patients choosing to die at home.
  • Develop a better understanding of community based services and resources available for patients and families.

Wound Management: What GPs need to know

Our sold out wound management session was held on 22 February 2024 at the Hub, Bentley Technology Park, in Perth.

  • Identify risk factors and secondary contributors to Hyperemesis Gravidarum, provide support through multimodal management plans, and identify patients suitable for home hospital management.
  • Understanding nutritional considerations for Hyperemesis Gravidarum patients, including at risk populations and how to support them.

When chronic disease and mental illness coexist

Our chronic disease and care coordination session was held on 18 October 2023 at the Joondalup Resort in Perth. 

Learning outcomes:

  • Understanding key features of the Flinders model to identify suitable patients and suitability for a community supported program.
  • Understanding why chronic disease patients are at risk of poor self care from a neurobiology and psychiatry point of view and guiding principles to help them achieve their goals.
  • Determining appropriate management plans and referral pathways for chronic disease patients seeking to withdraw from alcohol or other drugs.
