In 2023-24 we celebrated a significant milestone in our organisation’s history with the launch of Silverchain Foundation.
Our 130 year old legacy as a not for profit health and aged care organisation has been built on the generosity of supporters and donors, who understand the benefits of in home care for the community.
A key milestone for Silverchain in 2023-24 was the establishment of Silverchain Foundation. Silverchain Foundation is part of Silverchain Group, with its own Board bringing to it a broad range of business, philanthropy and not for profit leaders.
Silverchain Foundation was created to help Silverchain shape the future of care together. By moving fundraising activities to a foundation model, this creates a clear, concise and transparent way to provide financial support and show the impact that donors have on the work of Silverchain.
Thanks to our donors’ generosity, Silverchain Foundation helps empower Silverchain's clinical and care teams, and our research and innovation team to improve the care system for all Australians.
Silverchain is a champion of equity and equality to ensure an inclusive and supportive environment for our employees and clients. In 2023-24 we made strong progress on our Community Impact and Inclusion Strategy.
Each year since 2022, Silverchain has participated in the Pride in Health and Wellbeing Index as part of our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement with LGBTQIA+ inclusion. We have consistently achieved year on year improvements in our Pride in Health and Wellbeing score and we are eager to continue this progress. Silverchain is a proud member of Pride in Health and Wellbeing.
We also participated in the Australian Disability Network’s Access and Inclusion Index. This ranking reflects our growth towards inclusive practice of employing and welcoming people of all abilities within our organisation.
We made progress against our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and with it the development of an organisational cultural learning strategy. The Seed Pod, our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employee network, developed our second Innovate-level RAP, which we expect to launch in 2024-25.
In 2023-24 our work to make us more environmentally sustainable saw the installation of solar panels across four sites in Western Australia: Albany, Maddington, Bunbury and Mandurah. These solar panels generated 135,000 kwh of electricity resulting in a reduction of our carbon footprint by over 103 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
We also conducted an organic waste trial, including targeted behaviour change initiatives. This trial diverted approximately 3.38 tonnes of food waste from landfill in just over six months.
