There are several types of funding you can apply to receive from the Australian Government if you are eligible. The funding provided will vary depending on your care needs.
The Australian Government currently provides aged care funding for Australians aged 65 and over, or 50 and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
The funding provided can help you pay for all or the majority of the in home aged care services you need. This is also called subsidised or funded aged care. The government may also require you to pay a co-contribution fee towards your services, depending upon your financial circumstances. Find out how to apply.
You will know which type of funding you will be eligible to receive once you have been assessed by an assessor organised by My Aged Care.
Funding for home care
The two types of home care funding you may be eligible for are:
- Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP): This is an entry level service funding that provides basic home support services such as personal care, domestic assistance, social support, home and garden maintenance, nursing, and allied health.
- Home Care Package (HCP): A package is often the next step from CHSP and offers services for higher support needs.
Funding for short term care
If you need temporary assistance to recover from a health event or rebuild your independence, you may be eligible for:
- Short Term Restorative Care (STRC): Funding for support to help you restore your health and manage everyday tasks at home for up to eight weeks.
- Transition Care Program (TCP): Funding for services to help you recover your confidence and independence at home after a hospital stay for up to 12 weeks.
You can also receive funding for respite services. For more information, visit the government website My Aged Care.
