The rapid changes in demand, technology, consumer choice and public policy have disrupted the dominant bricks-and-mortar approach and Australians are seeking better connected care in the safety of their own homes.

We are investing in our digital tools and technology to better support the ever-changing needs of care delivery and regulation, and we continue to find innovative ways to deliver Best Care to our clients while supporting our care teams.

In 2021-22, our Health, Safety & Wellbeing team demonstrated this flexible and responsive approach by improving our employees’ experience with injuries and recovery.

The COVID-19 pandemic had resulted in increased workers compensation claims in our sector. The claims became more complex due to difficulties or delays in seeking medical attention and on average, accrued higher costsThere was also an industry trend of an increase in mental health injuries.

Our Health, Safety & Wellbeing team ensured that our people had access to the right medical professionals as soon as possible, to support their recovery and avoid long term health complications.

The team also reviewed our manual handling practices to reduce the number of injuries due to physical stress, which represented the highest frequency of claims, and renewed its focus on early intervention and investment in mental health care and preventative programs.

As a result of this work, Silverchain employees have a better experience when recovering from an injury, are receiving the treatment they need right from the start, and there are fewer worker compensation claims.

The claims frequency for 2021-22 was the lowest it has been in the last five financial years, despite the industry trends brought on by the COVID-19 pandemicdemonstrating our commitment to improving the health, safety and wellbeing of our people.
