Leading the way in care innovation.

In 2024-25 we focused on care innovation and designing and delivering world class models of home care, in partnership with local and international experts.

Silverchain’s people have long been pioneers and innovators of home care in Australia. Through our commitment to Future Care, we aim to revolutionise the way care is provided and transform the way it is received.

Our expert research and innovation team is dedicated to working with our clients, care teams, and industry partners to identify new services and technologies that can be used at Silverchain to improve our clients’ health and wellbeing.

In 2024-25 Silverchain became the first organisation in Australia to use smart glasses at scale to enhance the delivery of care in the home. Following a successful pilot of the technology, smart glasses are integrated into our services, enhancing clinical support and improving access to expert advice in real time in:

  • palliative care
  • hospital in the home
  • aged care
  • clinical support and supervision
  • medication management
  • specialist wound care.

This innovative technology provides clinicians with hands free access to care plans and enables real time consultation with specialist providers. This capability has proven to be a significant advancement in care delivery, especially for clients located far from specialist services.

A Silverchain led study published in 2025 in the Australian Journal on Ageingrevealed that more than 60 per cent of older Australians receiving in home aged care experience symptoms of depression and anxiety. In collaboration with our academic and industry partners, we piloted a first of its kind model of care in Victoria, known as EMBED (Enhanced Management of home-Based Elders with Depression). The pilot delivered promising results, underscoring the importance of investing in innovative care models to improve mental health and wellbeing outcomes for Australians living at home.

A clinical trial is now underway in Western Australia and South Australia to further assess the program’s long term impact and cost effectiveness. Results are expected in late 2026.

Continuing the focus on developing new and emerging technology, Silverchain partnered with Talius to pilot an AI powered virtual assistant to a select group of home care clients in Western Australia. The technology makes proactive outbound calls to confirm, reschedule or postpone visits from Silverchain care teams. Results of the initial pilot are promising with outcomes to inform a potential rollout across Silverchain’s aged care services.

Our investment in research and innovation to improve home care is only possible thanks to the ongoing generosity of donors to Silverchain Foundation.
